Everyone dreads revealing flabby arms. As the summer approaches, you don't want to hide your untoned arms in cardigans. Many arm exercises involve dumbbells, but you don't need weights or fancy equipment to get buff upper arms. | Some desk exercises If you sit at a desk, take a moment out of your day to tone your arms. Lift your legs and roll your chair towards and away from your desk. Repeat this for 5 minutes. This exercise helps you tone the lats and biceps, muscles that surround the shoulder. If you can't roll your chair, use your laptop as a makeshift weight. Pick it up and raise it to each side. Perform 20 lifts on each side. This exercise targets the delts and obliques. | Pool tricks Swimming freestyle or butterfly is the best way to achieve toned arms. If you don't enjoy laps, you can try these alternative and quicker exercises. In the shallow end of the pool you can do deck press exercises. Place your hands on the side of the pool, and bend your arms. Once you are in this position press your arms straight, while lifting your body upwards, and then lower yourself back into the water. Avoid jumping and try not to use your legs. You can perform this exercise 10-15 times. Another pool exercise is the water fly, which works the chest and rear delts. Stand in shoulder-deep water, place your arms on the side and lift your thumbs up, keeping your fingers closed. Push the water forward with straight arms and move your arms in front of you. Return to starting position by putting your thumbs down and pressing your arms back. Repeat this exercise 15 times. | Yoga poses | Use some popular yoga poses to shape your arms. First you can do the downward dog pose. Stand up and bend over from the waist. Walk your hands on the ground and move them forward until your hips are high. Relax your shoulders and press your heels into the floor. Hold for 3 to 5 breaths. After this, you can walk your hands forward and you will be in plank position. The side plank pose is another position which can target your arms. You first need to be in plank position. Lift your right arm up, and press into your left foot while rotating your hips, and stacking your feet. You can also hold this pose for 3 to 5 breaths. When you've finished, you can do it from the other side. | Steering wheel toning You can even tone your arms while sitting in traffic. Firstly place your hands on the steering wheel at 3 and 9 o'clock, and then press your palm inwards. This helps strengthen the chest. Hold this squeeze for 10-20 seconds and repeat. You can also target your rear delts by placing your hands inside the steering wheel and pressing outwards. | |
