Books against Nature as substitutes!

 


 

Today we do not see or feel nature but only read about nature. We actually avoid nature to spend all the time on books only. We note the important points, so that they get marks in examinations or give a lecture to impress. It is just like avoiding the wife or husband and read about him/her, and live life in books only or not converse at all but only read.


Today in Education, every subject matter is avoided by confining it to books only. In the case of a book one has to read and follow what is written in it. You cannot evaluate and judge as a student when you follow the lesson. Original thought shall be put in abeyance. The Text Book normally takes more than six months.


Instead of a book suppose you ask the student to study and learn directly from a tree. You tell him, to smell, perceive, understand and interact with the tree for the same period. You tell him that the tree also is trying to interact with him through its language, which is breathing, smelling and sensing. The net result will be the student discovers on his own his own lessons. He feels and experiences the lessons, created by him and the tree.


Suppose batches of students are allotted specific trees, plants or ponds, to breathe, smell, sense, interact, understand (the tree understanding the student and the student understanding the tree) and converse. The students actually develop a new talent of conversing with nature by receiving and giving smells. And discovery becomes education. They no longer refer to books or resort to computers but actually sense by feeling as continuous understanding. A big tree houses millions of organisms and is actually a universe. All organisms too interact. The tree sings using the air that blow to it. The air will be music and meaning laden. Nature continuously adds to the strength, confidence, enlightenment, sense of identity and belonging…all embedding emotionally. Nature helps the emotional and intellectual growth blending intellect with emotions, both as ingredients of understanding.


In the case of book, his/her creativity and possibility of discovery will not have much chance. He/She just reads, understands and often memorizes for the examination. After the examinations he will actually through away the books and forget the boring and bludgeoning lessons. Most take to divorce of the study. A Physics PG joins as an Accounts officer. He/She develops total indifference to nature.


He/She strives for recognition and respect showing the University Degree and Marks sheet.


NO TREE, PLANT, OR POND, OR BIRD, EVER NOTICES HIM/HER.


Today, the very notion of nature recognizing him/her and interacting is weird. Economic life as routine destruction of nature, poisoning the land water and air, depriving every organism of its home or habitat, total indifference to the emotional flow of Gaia and one's own emotional intelligence is not weird!


Our education system is creating monsters against nature.
