[KM] Keep_Mailing A short article on 'Ambition'

Have a nice day!

Even the wisest person has something yet to learn!

A Chicago Physician specializing in research on ulcers recently revealed that his laboratories had to abandon the use of dogs in their experiments.  The dogs were simply not ambitious enough.  They refused to get tense & worry,  & it is worry & tension,  often stemming from ambition,  most doctors think,  that produces ulcers.

If you inflict an ulcer upon a dog by artificial methods,  said the Chicago Doctor,  he will sit down & placidly cure himself by refusing to be bothered about anything.

There may be a lesson there for for the rest of us.  A human being's life,  obviously,  is more complicated than a dog's.  Our needs - both phychologically & physically are much greater.  We must be ambitious to survive.  However,  people who are overly-ambitious,  nor ambitious in the wrong way,  not only hurt their own chances,  but may ruin their health as well.

When people are so dominated by ambition that they fail to recognize the equally justified ambitions of others,  they lose their prospective.  If ambition is greater than ability,  they will be victims of constant tension & frustration.

There's nothing wrong with wanting to get ahead.  Competition is a fact of life.  People who lose even part of their inner drive always run the risk of falling by the wayside.

But the human desire to succeed is one thing;  proccupation with personal ambition that keeps people constantly wound up,  frustrated & fretting about their future prospects is another.  Carried to an extreme,  it's a big stumbling block to continued progress,  not to mention peace of mind.

Mature people soon learn that the most effective way to be ambitious is to be ambitious for their companies.  The more successful they are in realizing those ambitions,  the more obviously valuable their services will be.

Being ambitious for the company or group is the best way,  by far,  for leaders to show their talents.  If greater rewards & advancements are possible,  this is the way to get them--not by resorting to personal ambition with all its side effects, envy,  office politics & internal feuding.

With Best Regards,
