Relevance of Community Living in Present day Kerala Scenario
Present day society comprises of Nuclear families. Most of the children stay away from their ancestral homes in pursuit of their career. Life is smooth and comfortable as long as you are working but the situation changes drastically after you Retire. One can neither leave your place and stay with your children nor can you expect the children to leave their career and come back. The parents, who have given their youth bringing up the children, are left with no choice than stay alone in their homes. Most of the parents will have money, house, vehicles and other amenities but what is lacking will be company, a secure environment to live and reliable "Helps" to carry out your home needs.
Under the above background, community living has great relevance. Self help Senior Citizens community, a close knit Retirement Community of like - minded, contemporary life style Senior Citizen families, moving into a Secured Environment where you can live for the rest of your life is a great remedy . The intending couples moving into a new habitat where one can live in luxury / comfort and in the company of people like you who has rich and varied experience will be a great relief from the lack of company & support at the fag end of our lives.
In Kerala and other states where the population of "lone parents " progressing on the exponential curve, the prevalent social state of the upper middle class Retirees who struggled hard in their youth to come up in their career and at the same time bringing up their children to a good level of Education, is really miserable. Retirement is a trauma to many. Due to their advancing years and infirmities, they may have little option but to live out their last years in psychological, emotional and physical isolation.
There are many "Homes" for Seniors, established by the Government and some philanthropic / charitable institutions for the less-privileged ; many of these are poorly run, inadequate and unsuitable for Seniors from the middle classes (particularly, the upper & higher middle class ) who are unable to assimilate in these Homes due to social disparities.
There are large communes for Seniors developed by reputed builders but are of commercial nature and are not affordable to many . So, there is an urgent need for Non-profit, Assisted-living facilities for the Seniors where in they can be looked after and can live amongst themselves, sharing and caring for each other in a secure, congenial and cheerful environment.
Well conceived and well executed Retirement homes are not in plenty around us. There is great need for such habitats where one can live in dignity and in comfort .
"Cheri Retirement Homes - The Paradise" , comprised of 25000 Sft. built up space , spread over an area of 1.5 Acres, set in a scenic and serene environment, is a Facility to provide an environment where seniors can live with dignity, respect, security and companionship based on the concept of pay-and-stay , no-profit-no-loss Homes. The concept of pay-and-stay , no-profit-no-loss Homes is to provide Assisted living and residential facilities with comprehensive and quality care for those seniors who are economically independent but without others at close quarters to look after them in their later years. It can cater for accommodation for 19 families ( Single storey Duplex Villas and independent Apartments) , 7 Singles ( Widow / widowers) and 3 Guests ( Children / relations of inmates ) .
The facility provides all infrastructure for mental and physical well being of the inmates : Common Dining , Supportive Medical Care , Recreational facilities, Social Activity Hall ( Club Hall ) , an Exercise Room ( Tread mill, Cycle, Yoga ) , Jogging Track , Badminton court, individual covered Parking , Driver on Call, Home Care Professionals on regular visits , Laundry Service , House Keeping etc. The facility is nearing completion and is expected to go on stream by the first quarter of 2017.
