Dogs really are amazing creatures – they're capable of things humans could never achieve. For example, they're able to smell the inside of a human body, which means that they can tell when their owners are sick. They are even capable of sniffing out cancer. There is just no limit to what these creatures can do for their loving companions. One dog proved her love for her owner in an amazing way: she used her incredible sixth sense to help the woman regain her health. You'll never guess how this dog saver her owner's life. Keola is an American Akita who lives with her owners in Doncaster, South Yorkshire, England. Ricky and Alhanna Butler take very good care of her and treat her like part of the family. Recently, Keola found out that her family was going to get bigger; her owners were expecting a baby. Keola was excited by this news, but she had a feeling that something was wrong. As Alhanna's pregnancy progressed, she noticed a pain in her lower back. She discussed her pains with her doctor, but he just wrote them off as side effects of her pregnancy. Alhanna returned home, believing that everything was just fine. Alhanna might have been convinced by the doctor, but Keola knew better. She could smell something was wrong inside her owner's body. Alhanna noticed that her dog was acting weird, but she had no clue why. Alhanna explained to Mercury Press that "when the doctors sent me home and said there was nothing seriously wrong, she just sat staring at me so intently that it really scared me. I posted a picture of her doing this on Facebook and made the joke about the film Hatchi where the dog also does this, and suddenly my friends all started saying that I should take it seriously." Over a period of time, the dog became more and more nosy. Ricky and Alhanna definitely noticed that she was trying to tell them something. "No one really understood how ill I was, but Keola did. She would nudge me and cry and I could never figure out why she had suddenly started doing this. Ricky said she was distraught whenever I went to work, when she had never minded before." Luckily, she didn't shrug off her dog's warning signs. She went back to the hospital, where she was immediately rushed into intensive care. What the doctors found was shocking: Alhanna had been moments away from dying. The expectant mother had a double kidney infection that had been sending shooting pains through her back. To make matters worse, Alhanna had a rare type of infection. She barely reached the hospital in time to receive urgent medical care. Alhanna says that "because it was left untreated for so long, it was one of the worst cases they had ever seen. On top of that, I had an antibiotic-resistant infection that had only ever affected one other person in the United Kingdom. It was killing me and the doctors told me that if I had left it any longer, I would have died alongside my unborn son." Keola had saved the day. Thanks to this dog's loyalty, Alhanna was able to carry out her pregnancy in good health. She gave birth to a healthy baby boy named Lincoln, and he and Keola are now best of friends. |
