15 Amazing Forests from Around the World Forests make up nearly a third of our planet. Each forest has its own ecosystem, which varies by climate and by country. These unique forests are incredibly diverse. Some of the forests on the list are made from sandstone, bamboo, and even one that is actually based underwater! Here are 15 of the most amazing forests from all around the world:  1) Banff National Park, Canada   Banff National Park is Canada's oldest national park, and it's located in the Alberta province, west of Calgary. The park is famous for its breathtaking alpine landscapes, enormous glaciers, and ice fields. The Wapta Icefields are a sight to behold.  2) Amazon Rainforest, South America   The Amazon Jungle is located in South America, and encompasses 7,000,000 square kilometers or (2,700,000 square miles). Over 60% of the forest is contained in Brazil. The "Amazonas" represents half of the planet's entire rainforest, making it the largest tropical rainforest in the world. 3) Heron Pond, United States   This stunning pond of cypress trees can be found in the Shawnee Forest of Belnap, Illinois. The forest plays home to a wide variety of cypress trees, willows, ferns and plants. You can head up the Cache River Nature Area for a scenic hike of the forest. 4) Sagano Bamboo Forest (Arashiyama), Japan   The beautiful bamboo forest of Sagano can be found along the western outskirts of Kyoto, Japan. The Arashiyama Bamboo Grove is one of the most visited tourist places in all of Japan. While you're at the forest, you won't want to miss Tenryu-ji Temple, which is only a simple walk away!  5) Black Forest, Germany   The forest, also known as Schwarzwald, is located along the wooded mountain range of Baden-Württemberg, in SouthWest Germany. The beautiful lakes of Titisee and Schluchsee are the main tourist attractions of the forest.  6) Zhangjiajie National Forest Park, China   The Zhangjiajie National Park sits atop the Wulingyuan Scenic Area of the Hunan Province. The quartz sandstone pillars are the main features of the famous Chinese national park. They are the result of erosion, which occurred many years ago.  7) Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve, Costa Rica   The Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve is noted for its flora, fauna, and diverse species of wildlife. The forest reserve was discovered in 1972, and can be found along the Cordillera de Tilarán mountain range within the Puntarenas and Alajuela provinces. 8) Avenue of the Baobabs, Madagascar   The Avenue or Alley of the Baobabs can be seen off a dirt road between Morondava and Belon'i Tsiribihina, in the Menabe region of western Madagascar. The trees can grow up to 800 years old. There are only between 20-25 remaining baobab trees in the forest.   9) Kelp Forest, United States   The underwater kelp forest  seen here, was photographed from the Monterey Bay Aquarium in Monterey, California. There is a wide variety of kelp growing within the underwater ecosystem. Kelp forests have also been discovered as far as the tropical waters of Ecuador. 10) Dragon Blood Tree Forest, Yemen   The Dracaena Cinnabari or Dragon Blood Tree Forest, can be seen off the Socotra Island, in Yemen. The thick red sap of the trees give them the name. The red sap is actually used as a popular dye, and even acts as a natural medicine.  11) Ancient Bristlecone Pine Forest, United States   The gorgeous pine forest can be found along the White Mountains of Inyo County, located in Eastern California. The forest is open mid-May through the end of November. The park is also home to the 4,846 old Methuselah pine tree, which is one of the oldest bristlecone pines in the world.  12) Muir Woods National Monument, United States   The monument is located in the Pacific coast of Southeastern Marin County, California, and founded by a couple renaming redwood forests near San Francisco. The coastal redwoods are absolutely stunning, and a nature lover's best dream come true! The monument was also listed on the National Register of Historic Places. 13) Stone Forest, China   The Stone Forest is located in the Shilin Yi Autonomous County, of the Yunnan Province. The towering limestone formations are said to date back over 270 million years!The forest also belongs to the UNESCO World Heritage Sites. 14) Fishlake National Forest, United States   Fishlake National Forest is home to the famous Pando, or The Trembling Giant, which is a single male quaking aspen. The aspen trees are part of one massive underground root system that has existed for over 80,000 years. The forest is situated just Southwest of Fish Lake in Utah. 15) Mangrove Tunnel, Honduras   The rows of mangrove trees can be seen from as far as the Caribbean all the way to the Philippines. The Mangrove Tunnel Tour is a major tourist attraction in Honduras, and is situated along the Roatán, Bay Islands. The tour takes you through the cultural heritage of the Caribbean, and definitely a must-see experience for everyone.

The Potential Risk of Grapefruit Juice Citrus fruits are considered to be very healthy, thanks to their high vitamin C content as well as the many minerals and other nutrients they contain. However, ingesting grapefruit juice can lead to severe poisoning when mixed with certain substances. A variety of medical studies in recent years found that combining grapefruit juice with certain medications can lead to an overdose. This article will discuss the reasons for these results, and list the medications you absolutely cannot mix with grapefruit.   The Grapefruit/Medication Connection The human body produces an enzyme called CYO3A4 that, amongst other things, helps break down certain chemicals before they are absorbed into the bloodstream. Grapefruits contain a chemical that inhibits the CYO3A4 enzyme's functions, which leads to more of the medication being absorbed into the bloodstream. When the level of medication in the blood is too high, you enter a state of overdose, which can lead to exacerbated side-effects and even poisoning. Other Citrus Fruits The inhibiting chemical in grapefruit can also be found in other citrus fruits, such as pomelo, limes, and bitter oranges (a type of orange that is very bitter and is mainly used in jams). It's important to mention that other species of oranges, as well as lemons - are safe to ingest, as they don't contain the aforementioned chemical. Potential Severity of Reactions It's difficult to predict the severity of reaction grapefruit juice will have on one's body, as it can be affected by many variables. Different juices contain different levels of the inhibiting chemical, meaning that each type of juice can have a different level of effect. Additionally, the quantity of juice consumed can have a drastically varied effect according to one's weight.   Medications that Should Not Be Taken with Grapefruit Juice: There are currently more than 85 different medications that should not be taken with grapefruit juice, and new drugs join the list every year.
