[ ::: ♥Keep_Mailing♥ ::: ]™ Professional Tip: Creating SMART Goals

Creating S.M.A.R.T. Goals

Specific

Measurable

Attainable

Realistic

Timely

Specific: A specific goal has a much greater chance of being accomplished than a general goal. To set a specific goal you must answer the six "W" questions:

*Who:      Who is involved?

*What:     What do I want to accomplish?

*Where:    Identify a location.

*When:     Establish a time frame.

*Which:    Identify requirements and constraints.

*Why:      Specific reasons, purpose or benefits of accomplishing the goal.

EXAMPLE:  A general goal would be, "Get in shape." But a specific goal would say, "Join a health club and workout 3 days a week."

Measurable - Establish concrete criteria for measuring progress toward the attainment of each goal you set.

When you measure your progress, you stay on track, reach your target dates, and experience the exhilaration of achievement that spurs you on to continued effort required to reach your goal.

To determine if your goal is measurable, ask questions such as……

How much? How many?

How will I know when it is accomplished?

Attainable/Achievable – When you identify goals that are most important to you, you begin to figure out ways you can make them come true. You develop the attitudes, abilities, skills, and financial capacity to reach them. You begin seeing previously overlooked opportunities to bring yourself closer to the achievement of your goals.

You can attain most any goal you set when you plan your steps wisely and establish a time frame that allows you to carry out those steps. Goals that may have seemed far away and out of reach eventually move closer and become attainable, not because your goals shrink, but because you grow and expand to match them. When you list your goals you build your self-image. You see yourself as worthy of these goals, and develop the traits and personality that allow you to possess them.

Realistic- To be realistic, a goal must represent an objective toward which you are both willing and able to work. A goal can be both high and realistic; you are the only one who can decide just how high your goal should be. But be sure that every goal represents substantial progress.

A high goal is frequently easier to reach than a low one because a low goal exerts low motivational force. Some of the hardest jobs you ever accomplished actually seem easy simply because they were a labor of love.

Timely/Time bound – A goal should be grounded within a time frame. With no time frame tied to it there's no sense of urgency. If you want to lose 10 lbs, when do you want to lose it by? "Someday" won't work. But if you anchor it within a timeframe, "by May 1st", then you've set your unconscious mind into motion to begin working on the goal.
Your goal is probably realistic if you truly believe that it can be accomplished. Additional ways to know if your goal is realistic is to determine if you have accomplished anything similar in the past or ask yourself what conditions would have to exist to accomplish this goal.

T can also stand for Tangible – A goal is tangible when you can experience it with one of the senses, that is, taste, touch, smell, sight or hearing.

When your goal is tangible you have a better chance of making it specific and measurable and thus attainable.

[ ::: ♥Keep_Mailing♥ ::: ]™ Story: The Cow with the Owner

The Teacher was walking through the market place with his students. They saw a man dragging a cow by a rope. Teacher told the man to wait and asked his disciples to surround them. "I am going to teach you something" and continued...

"Tell me who is bound to whom? Is the cow bound to this man or the man is bound to the cow?

The students said without hesitation "Of course the cow is bound to the man!. The man is the master. He is holding the rope. The cow has to follow him wherever he goes. The man is the master and the cow is the slave."

"Now watch this", said the teacher and took a pair of scissors from his bag and cut the rope. The cow ran away from the master and the man ran after his cow. "Look, what is happening", said the Teacher .

"Do you see who the Master is? The cow is not at all interested in this man. The cow in fact, is trying to escape from this man." This is the case with our mind.

Like the cow, all the non-sense that we carry inside is not interested in us. We are interested in it, we are keeping it together somehow or the other. We are going crazy trying to keep it all together under our control.

The moment we lose interest in all the garbage filled in our head, and the moment we understand the futility of it, it will start to disappear. Like the cow, it will escape and disappear." We can allow disappearing of all the unwanted things from our mind and feel relaxed.

[ ::: ♥Keep_Mailing♥ ::: ]™ THREE DOLLS

.
.
.

A sage presented a prince with a set of three small dolls.
 The prince was not amused.

"Am I a girl that you give me dolls?" – He asked.

"This is a gift for a future king," Said the sage.
"If you look carefully, you'll see a hole in the ear of each doll."

The sage handed him a piece of string.
"Pass it through each doll." – He said.

Intrigued, the prince picked up the first doll and put the string into the ear.
It came out from the other ear. "This is one type of person," said the sage,
"whatever you tell him, comes out from the other ear.
He doesn't retain anything."

The prince put the string into the second doll.
It came out from the mouth.
"This is the second type of person," said the sage,
"whatever you tell him, he tells everybody else."

The prince picked up the third doll and repeated the process.
The string did not come out.
"This is the third type of person," said the sage,
"whatever you tell him is locked up within him. It never comes out."

"Who is the best type of person?" – Asked the prince.

The sage handed him a fourth doll, in answer.
When the prince put the string into the doll,
it came out from the other ear.

"Do it again." – Said the sage.

The prince repeated the process.
This time the string came out from the mouth.
When he put the string in a third time,
it did not come out at all.

"This is the best type of person," said the sage.

"To be trustworthy, a man must know when not to listen,
when to remain silent and when to speak out."

[ ::: ♥Keep_Mailing♥ ::: ]™ BEAUTY OF INDOOR PLANTS

Every day the number of people suffering from chronic breathing disorders and
various cancers are rising steeply. One of the major cause does this shocking
trend is the exposure to pollutants and toxins in the air, water, and even food.
In 1973 during the Skylab III mission, NASA identified 107 volatile organic chemicals (VOCs)
that were emitting from synthetic materials inside the spacecraft. NASA realized
that indoor air pollution in any tightly sealed structure could present serious
health problems and should be addressed. The result was NASA commissioning
numerous studies since the late 1980s on the effect of indoor plants on closed structures

These studies aimed at providing pure air in space stations concluded that
indoor plants may provide a natural way of removing toxic agents such as
benzene formaldehyde and Trichloroethylene. Here are 10
plants that purify the indoor air effectively:

1. Boston Fern:
In a study by Wolverton it was concluded that the most effective house
2. English Ivy:
If you are someone with a pet in the home, then English Ivy is the
perfect indoor plant as it can reduce the amount of airborne faecal matter.
It is ideal to be potted and requires less maintaining. It can also
absorb carcinogens from smokes from cigarettes.
3. Spider Plant:
Spider plant is one of the easiest to grow house plant.
The leaves are good in absorbing molds and carbon monoxide.
4. Peace Lilly:
Peace Lilly is one of the most beautiful plants with its unique white flowers.
It has one of the highest transpiration rates amongst indoor plants.
It helps reduce mold spores, Alcohol, acetone vapours from the air.
5. Chinese evergreen:
Chinese evergreen is another easy to grow house plant which help
removes toxins found in chemical-based household cleaners.
6. Chrysanthemum:
In addition to purifying the air inside your home, Chrysanthemum can brighten
up indoors with its colourful and beautiful flowers. They do need
direct sunlight and grows well when placed near windows.
7. Golden Pothos:
These are good at reducing the volatile organic chemicals from the air.
Studies by Stanley J. Kays and colleagues at the University of Georgia also
documented the ability of different plant species to remove VOCs such as
 benzene, toluene, octane, and trichloroethylene
8. Snake Plant:
Snake Plant, also known as Mother-in-Law's tongue, is one of the hardest to
kill houseplants. Unlike other plants Snake Plant is unique for absorbing Carbon dioxide
and releasing oxygen at night making it ideal for bedrooms and living spaces.
9. Aloe Vera:
Aloe Vera is well known for its use as a home remedy for burns and cuts, but
its uses go beyond that since it is a good air purifier. Most
importantly it is easy to grow in most conditions
10. Bamboo Palm:
Bamboo palm is a great humidifier and filters benzene and trichloroethylene from
the indoor air. It requires less sunlight and resistant to most pests.
It should be remembered that despite the amazing air purifying effects,
many of these plants contains toxins that are harmful if consumed. So make
sure to keep them away from the reach of pets and children.

[ ::: ♥Keep_Mailing♥ ::: ]™ RIG VEDA

    RIG VEDA

HMV had once published a pamphlet giving the history of gramophone
record. Gramophone was invented by Thomas Alva Edison in the 19th
century. Edison, who had invented many other gadgets like electric
light and the motion picture camera, had become a legend even in his
own time.

When he invented the gramophone record, which could record human voice
for posterity, he wanted to record the voice of an eminent scholar on
his first piece. For that he chose Prof. Max Muller of England,
another great personality of the 19th century. He wrote to Max Muller
saying, "I want to meet you and record your voice. When should I
come?" Max Muller who had great respect for Edison asked him to come
on a suitable time when most of the scholars of the Europe would be
gathering in England.

Accordingly Edison took a ship and went to England. He was introduced
to the audience. All cheered Edison's presence. Later at the request
of Edison, Max Muller came on the stage and spoke in front of the
instrument. Then Edison went back to his laboratory and by afternoon
came back with a disc. He played the gramophone disc from his
instrument. The audience was thrilled to hear the voice of Max Muller
from the instrument. They were glad that voices of great persons like
Max Muller could be stored for the benefit of posterity.

After several rounds of applause and congratulations to Thomas Edison,
Max Muller came to the stage and addressed the scholars and asked
them, "You heard my original voice in the morning. Then you heard the
same voice coming out from this instrument in the afternoon. Do you
understand what I said in the morning or what you heard in the
afternoon?"

The audience fell silent because they could not understand the
language in which Max Muller had spoken. It was 'Greek and Latin' to
them as they say. But had it been Greek or Latin, they would have
definitely understood because they were from various parts of Europe.
It was in a language which the European scholars had never heard.

Max Muller then explained what he had spoken. He said that the
language he spoke was Sanskrit and it was the first sloka of Rig Veda,
which says "Agni Meele Purohitam". This was the first recorded public
version on the gramophone plate.

अग्निमीळे पुरोहितं यज्ञस्य देवं रत्वीजम |
होतारं रत्नधातमम || Rig Veda 1.001.01

aghnimīḷe purohitaṃ yajñasya devaṃ ṛtvījam |
hotāraṃ ratnadhātamam || Rig Veda 1.001.01

Why did Max Muller choose this? Addressing the audience he said,
"Vedas are the oldest text of the human race. And "Agni Meele
Purohitam" is the first verse of Rig Veda. In the most primordial
time, when the people did not know how even to cover their bodies and
lived by hunting and housed in caves, Indians had attained high
civilization and they gave the world universal philosophies in the
form of the Vedas"

When "Agni Meele Purohitam" was replayed the entire audience stood up
in silence as a mark of respect for the ancient Hindu sages.

The verse means

"Oh Agni, You who gleam in the darkness, to you we come day by day,
with devotion and bearing homage. So be of easy access to us, Agni, as
a father to his son, abide with us for our well being. "
