[KM] ♥Keep_Mailing♥ spices for your health

turmeric cuts your risk of diabetes

This exotic spice has a golden-yellow hue and slightly peppery, gingery taste. It's wildly popular in Asian, Indian and African cuisines and if you're not already a fan, here's a great reason to try it: According to researchers at Thailand's Srinakharinwirot University, adding as little as one teaspoon of turmeric to your daily diet could cut your risk of type 2 diabetes by as much as half! This spice is loaded with curcumin, a potent antioxidant that nourishes the insulin-producing pancreas, say researchers. "Just sneak it into your favorite fish, chicken, beef, vegetable and rice dishes to jazz them up,"

sage strengthens memory

Feeling foggy? A single dose of sage can instantly sharpen your memory skills, helping you recall names, places and other facts more quickly and accurately for at least three hours straight, say researchers at Britain's University of Northumbria at Newcastle. How? Plant compounds called phenols block the breakdown of acetylcholine -- a brain compound that's essential for clear-headed thinking and the formation of new memories, the study authors say. Try tossing 1/2 teaspoon of this dried herb into your next meal.

saffron fights depression

Three clinical trials at the University of Tehran suggest that eating a daily pinch (less than 1/10 of a teaspoon) of this golden-yellow spice eases depression for 75 percent of women, making it more powerful than many prescription antidepressants. Credit saffron's crocin, an antioxidant that prods the brain to produce more mood-boosting serotonin. Saffron has a slightly sweet, earthy flavor, and it's wonderful in seafood, rice, beef and tomato-based dishes.
That pinch will do just fine in this recipe for Pasta with Zucchini and Saffron.

Respected Sir,

Sub: SUBMISSION OF ABSTRACT FOR ORAL PRESENTATION

Greetings to you sir.

Hereby I submit to your goodself the paper titled "Imparting Environmental Health Awareness Related to Heat Stress among Workers Using Insights from an Ancient Literary Work"

The concept was developed by me during the course of the research project "Psychophysiological Insights in Thirukkural" funded by the Central Government of India. I request you to kindly include this paper under the theme of "Environment" in your upcoming International Conference.

Thanks and regards,

Dr.M.Semmal

"Imparting Environmental Health Awareness

For working population Using Insights from an Ancient Literary Work"

INTRODUCTION:

Enhancing awareness about Environmental Health issues due to climate change and consequent health outcomes to the medium to highly literate working populations, who form the backbone of the country's economy, is an important but difficult task. Linkages between climate change and other health implications among working populations have been well established; hence enhancing awareness in regional languages will greatly help the working population in accepting the knowledge which in turn will improve the health, productivity and quality of life of the workers. Mining the scientific wisdom by critically analyzing and enumerating the insights embedded in the ancient literary works like"Thirukurral" authored by Thiruvalluar is a novel potential area to be explored.

METHODOLOGY:

Insights related to environmental health embedded in couplets 11 – 20 in second chapter (002) "Vaan sirappu" (Blessings of the Space) in Thirukkural are critically analyzed with extreme care to remove bias in the interpretation process. E- Learning via educational videos will be posted in hosting services like the you tube explaining the ancient literature in intricate details admixed with scientific facts that can be made accessible to the working population as a medium of intervention in increasing awareness. The couplets will be used to elaborate about the fundamental concepts related to the five major elements, their resources, supply routes; various water resources and their chemical composition; desalination of water; rainwater harvesting; annual global rainfall and periodic changes in it; quantification of natural resources; about various taxa; socioeconomic, political and cognitive changes due to climate change.

EXPECTED OUTCOME:

The knowledge will help working population apply caution, adapt and be prepared to the dynamically changing exposures to various environmental aberrations. Multiple goals spanning from regional language development to priming the masses towards the traditional roots and awareness to Environmental health - all can be accomplished by this innovative E-learning methodology which can be gradually expanded to other literary works in classical languages of the world's great ancient civilizations.

[KM] ♥Keep_Mailing♥ Ladder to be Installed at Mount Everest

Ladder to be Installed at Mount Everest

Well, climbing Mount Everest ain't what it used to be. Sixty years after Sir Edmund Hillary and Sherpa Tenzing Norgay reached the summit of Sir George's mountain, there are so many people waiting in line to reach the top that there's now a plan to install a ladder there:

"We are now discussing putting a ladder on the Hillary Step but it is obviously controversial," said Dawa Steven Sherpa, who runs commercial expeditions on Everest and is a senior member of the Expedition Operators Association in Nepal.

This year, 520 climbers have reached the summit of Everest. On 19 May, around 150 climbed the last 3,000ft of the peak from Camp IV within hours of each other, causing lengthy delays as mountaineers queued to descend or ascend harder sections.

"Most of the traffic jams are at the Hillary Step because only one person can go up or down. If you have people waiting two, three or even four hours that means lots of exposure [to risk]. To make the climbing easier, that would be wrong. But this is a safety feature," said Sherpa ...

I think I'll wait till they install an escalator.

[KM] ♥Keep_Mailing♥ The most pampered cows in America!

The most pampered cows in America! The fluffy bovine beauties who have had the hair-dryer treatment

  • Pictures of pretty fluffy cattle are flooding the internet
  • Fluffy cows aren't a special fluffy breed, but regular cows who have undergone extensive clipping and grooming
  • Bulls shown in stock shows can sell at auction for more than $75,000

Images and videos of so-called 'fluffy cows' are popping up all over the internet, and people want to know: what breed are these magnificent creatures?

It turns out that in the livestock showing world, fluffy cows are not part of a secret fluffy cow breed but known breeds that have been very skilfully primped by specialty groomers who wash, blow-dry and style the cows into fluffiness.

Tony Bruguiere, a photographer who specializes in Western and rodeo photography, says that cow grooming is common sight at any stock show.

Dolled-up Daisy: Once they're washed, blow-dried and styled to within an inch of their lives, cattle scrub up pretty well

'Walk through the yards or the bottom floor of the Hall of Education at the National
Western Stock Show and you will be bombarded by the whine of blowers and the hum of
clippers,' he says.

'It is a constant process and the goal is to make a bull or cow that looks like any other you would see on the other side of the fence into a fluffy rock star.'

Once you've got a cow with top-notch genes, the rest is all smoke and mirrors.

At a livestock show, the animal will be primped by special groomers. First up, a shampoo, wash and blow-dry, then it's onto the styling.

Pretty boy: It's not just the girls who get five-star treatment. Bulls are groomed to look as big, strong and masculine as possible

Bruguiere reports there are countless tools used in the cattle grooming trade, including seven different combs, a special squeegee to remove excess water from the coat, a 'Roto Fluffer' to remove guard haris, turbo fans to keep a constant flow of air through the animal's fur, various clippers.

'There is even a special neoprene neck wrap that is used in combination with a sweating lotion to make the neck skin tighter on females and give them a more 'feminine' look.' he says.

High steaks: Champion bulls can sell at auction for upwards of $75,000, so it pays to make your bull look his best

There are also enough products to challenge the bathroom cabinet of any cosmetics-obsessed human, including adhesives, mousse, oils, dyes, paints, hair builder, hair polish, sunscreen and cleansers.

Show animals are often sold for breeding, so their grooming emphazises their good characteristics.

Bruguiere says cows are groomed to look 'feminine' and the bulls to look 'heavy-boned' and 'masculine'.

No Tobacco day was observed all over the word today (31st May). The purpose of observing this day is to draw our attention towards health risks associated with smoking. Awareness programs in UAE electronic media were on-air discussing the life threatening risks of smoking. Further, the sale of tobacco was prohibited for the whole day in order to encourage the population, youth in particular, to get rid of this habit.

Talking about Pakistan it is sad to observe that least awareness campaigns are observed in electronic and print media. Not a single TV ad was noticed in television all day long. Further, it is observed that the price of 20 cigarettes packet is only 5 AED in Pakistan comparing to that of Australia 60 AED and UK 40 AED.

It's a tragedy for a nation where joblessness density is increasing day by day; low cigarette price and its easy availability adds fuel the fire. The depressed youth have easy access to tobacco with the misconception that they will get quick relief from their stress without considering the long term cancers they are developing in their bodies.

On top of that the least effective attitude of ministries is very disheartening.  As per world health report in Pakistan 574

Cigarettes per adult per year are smoked. Comparing to India having 129, Nigeria 189, Afghanistan 98, Sudan 77 cigarettes per adult per year it is critically important for the health ministry to device concrete strategic moves in order to eradicate this disease from the nation. For example cigarette availability in the market should be limited, strictly prohibited for sale under 18 and the selling cost should be high so as to discourage people buying all kinds of tobacco products. Last but not least, a lot of awareness campaigns in print, electronic and social media are to run by relevant ministries and authorities.
