Read what the World’s Richest want to teach their 20 year old Self

LinkedIn recently asked its network of influencers what they wished they had known when they were 22 in an article series named “If I were 22”. The idea was to learn from their experience and let the world know what some of the world’s most significant people think they had learnt long back in their early phase of life.

Here’s what some of the most known faces of today wished they had done back then -

1. Jim Kim – President at World Bank

“Travel and See How People Live”

“When I was 22, one thing naturally led to another. Even so, I wish I knew then what I understand better now about preparing myself for the future.” Jim wrote. He particularly highlighted that young minds should work hard on building their leadership skills and understand how different people live – in different parts of the world. Read more here.

“Chart Your Own Path to Success”

Arianna said that people should not just climb the ladder of success – but “chart a new path to success.” A path that not include the conventional metrics of traditional success – that is money and power, but include a third metric – well being, wisdom and giving. “I wish I had known this when I was 22” she added.

5. Ban Ki-moon – Secretary General at United Nations

Ban Ki-moon’s if I were 22 messages primarily highlighted the importance of Travel. Travel transformed my perspective and my life, he wrote. “From my dusty village in Korea, I opened my eyes to the wider world…I have learned that it is never enough to simply parrot principles without activating them through concrete steps – but at the same time, concrete steps will take us off the right path if we do not hold fast to our principles as we pursue them.”

“The Wisdom of Uncertainty”

“At the outset of my medical career, I had the security of knowing exactly where I was headed…Yet what I didn’t count on was the uncertainty of life, and what uncertainty can do to a person.” said Deepak. “I thought security was my friend and uncertainty my enemy. If only I knew then, as I know now, that there is wisdom in uncertainty.” He particularly focused on the idea of going free and accepting the different facets of life without complaining. Read more here.
