Viswanathan Anand gets grand welcome at Chennai
Viswanathan Anand, who recently won the World Chess Championship for the fifth time, arrived at the Chennai airport on Saturday night to a rousing reception. Accompanied by traditional music and folk dance and a sizable number of fans with Anand masks, he was received by the office bearers of the All India Chess Federation (AICF) and the World Chess Federation (FIDE), and his family. The chess campion thanked the chief minister J Jayalalithaa who has announced a cash reward of Rs two crores for his feat. He said he would meet her soon. Many other events have been planned in the city to celebrate his achievement.
